How to import surveys with geometry from KML or Shapefile

How to upload a shapefile or KML into a survey form in NRDS

1: IDENTIFY the survey you want to import into.

2: CLICK the Upload button (Button with up arrow on top right).

3. SELECT your KML file or zipped shapefile from your computer or drag and drop it.

4. CLICK "Next" on the bottom right of the window

5. CHECK that the "GREEN" boxes are checked. These are the fields you want to include in the upload. You can exclude the survey id field if it does not exist.

  • If you are updating an existing survey:

    • Identify the matching column - blue

    • Identify the update column - orange

6. CLICK "Next" on the bottom right of the window

7. CLICK "Evaluate Import" (blue button on bottom left of window)

7. CHECK that there are no errors and you see your data on the screen.

8. CLICK "Import Surveys" at the bottom of the screen to import your data into NRDS.

Handling errors

1. If you have any errors shown below, make sure your columns line up with the template and your options are valid

Common issues

  • Date fields that are not dates

  • Number fields that are not numbers

  • Fields that look like they match but they have extra spaces

  • Options missing from option lists

You can export the errors at the top left of the window by clicking the red arrow.

Contact support@nrds.io if you have an issues. Send us your zipped shapefile the the url of the survey you are trying to import into.
