NRDS Mobile App v2: Tracking Features Overview
1. Open the NRDS v2 app and start a track 0:00
Open the NRDS mobile app version 2 (the green app in the store).
Tap the plus (+) button on the right.
Select Track to begin recording your movement.
2. Recenter on your current location 0:40
If your current location is off-screen, tap the dot icon on the left.
This recenters the map on your current position.
The app also shows an arrow/line indicating your starting point and direction of travel.
3. Use directional tracking and compass orientation 0:51
The arrow points in the direction your device is facing.
As you turn, the map orientation updates to match your direction.
If the direction seems inaccurate, you may need to calibrate your compass.
4. Enable follow mode to keep your location in focus 1:14
Tap the arrow in the top-left to keep your current location centered.
You can also see the altitude and current accuracy
With this setting on, the app follows your movement as you walk.
If the orientation seems off, use Compass Calibration from the menu and follow the prompts.
5. Pause and resume tracking 1:46
Tap Pause to stop recording temporarily.
While paused, you can move without adding to the track.
When you resume, you have two behaviors to choose from:
Resume with a gap: leaves a break between track segments.
Resume from last point: draws a straight line from the last recorded point to the new one.
6. Stop tracking and save the result 2:30
When finished, tap Stop and Save.
Choose how to save the track:
Line: saves the path as an open line with distance.
Polygon: closes the loop and saves it as a polygon.
7. Adjust tracking settings for better accuracy 2:54
Open the menu/settings to access geolocation tracking options.
Review settings such as:
Tracking interval
Accuracy
Other geolocation-related options
Use the built-in help/tutorial to understand what each setting does.
8. Fine-tune point spacing with distance interval 3:21
If track points are too far apart, switch to Distance Interval mode.
Set a smaller interval, such as 1 meter, for more detailed tracking.
This creates more frequent points (for example, about every few feet).
The default mode is Elastic Tracking, which adjusts dynamically as you move.
