1. Understand what a WFS endpoint is 0:00
A WFS endpoint is a Web Feature Service URL.
It can be loaded into GIS tools such as:
ArcGIS / ArcGIS Cloud
QGIS
Once connected, it provides live, updated, real-time streaming data from NRDS surveys.
Here is how to add WFS endpoints to QGIS or ArcGIS and configure them
2. Request permission to create WFS layers 0:24
Before you can publish your own endpoint, you need to request permission from support.
If you do not see the WFS options in your survey or template, that usually means you do not yet have access.
Once permission is granted, the WFS Layers tab will become available.
3. Open a survey or template with a geometry question 0:48
Go to a survey or template that includes a geometry question.
This is the type of template that can support WFS publishing.
If permissions are enabled, you should see a WFS Layers tab.
4. Create the WFS layer 1:12
In the WFS Layers tab, click Create WFS Layers.
The system will publish the layer automatically.
In some cases, a template may create the WFS layer for you automatically.
After creation, you should see confirmation that the layer has been published.
5. Review the generated WFS details 1:12
You can set or confirm key WFS settings such as:
Name
Unique key / unique identifier
The system will inspect the template and determine important metadata automatically, including:
Geometry
Bounding box
Other required endpoint information
6. Copy the endpoint URL into your GIS software 1:31
Copy the WFS URL that was generated.
Paste it into your GIS software, such as QGIS.
Once connected, you can access the WFS endpoint and view the live NRDS data stream.
7. Get help if you do not see the WFS tab 1:54
If the WFS Layers tab is missing, you likely need permissions.
Contact support and request access.
After permissions are granted, you can return to the survey or template and publish the WFS layer.
