Creating and Updating Custom Maps on NRDS

The steps to create a custom map on the NRDS web application, allowing users to add their own layers and backgrounds.

1. Accessing the Map Creation Options 0:30

  • Navigate to the sidebar on the NRDS web application.

  • Choose one of the following options to create a custom map:

    • Click on 'Create' and select 'Create New'.

    • Select an existing map and click 'Save As' to copy it.

2. Setting Up Your Custom Map 1:01

  • After selecting your map creation method, you will access the map setup bar menu.

  • Configure the following settings:

    • Mobile Setting: Share the map with the mobile app.

    • Clustered: Control clustering of points on the map.

    • Show Labels: Decide if labels should be shown by default when the map opens.

    • Ordering: Set the order of items on the sidebar.

    • Zoom: Define the default zoom level of the map.

3. Defining Map Center and Bounds 2:07

  • Set the following parameters:

    • Latitude and Longitude: Determine the center point of the map.

    • Bounding Box: Define the outer bounds of the map.

  • Configure:

    • Buffer Percent: Adjust how much of the area outside the map is fetched by the API.

    • Clustered Zoom: Set the zoom level at which cluster points will collapse or expand.

  • Turn layers on and off as needed.

  • Ensure that the map name is unique to avoid errors during saving.

  • Be cautious with the buffer percent setting, as a high value may slow down map performance.

  • Regularly save your progress to avoid losing changes.
