Creating a Template from a Shapefile
1. Familiarization with Shapefile 0:13
Ensure you are familiar with your shapefile and its attributes.
Have a clear idea of which fields you want to be drop-downs.
3. Accessing Template Creation 0:24
Navigate to the templates section in the sidebar. https://app.nrds.io/kilo/templates
Select 'Add Template' and choose 'Upload from Spreadsheet or Shapefile'.
4. Uploading the Shapefile 0:33
Drag and drop or navigate to your zipped shapefile and upload it.
5. Reviewing Fields 0:44
Click 'Next' to view the fields from the shapefile.
Note that field names may be concatenated and appear unusual.
6. Renaming Fields 0:55
Rename fields for clarity:
Fence ID: Integer
Section: Text field
Fence Name: Text field
Last Check: Date time
Description: Text field
Fence Status: Change to drop-down.
7. Setting Drop-down Options 1:16
For fields that should be drop-downs, change the type to 'Select'.
Set it to 'Custom' and select the appropriate source data for options.

Repeat the process for other fields:
GPS Status: Select
GPS Source: Select
Date Complete: Date field
Apron: Select
Fence Height: Decimal
Agency: Select.
9. Geometry Field Setup 2:10
Name the geometry field as desired.
Select the type of geometry (line shapefile).
Set the measurement unit (miles).

Click 'Save' to create the template.

Go to 'Other Settings' and select 'Sheet Settings' (can be ignored).
In 'Import Columns', select 'Fence Section' as the target template.

Confirm that there is a one-to-one match between fields and the shapefile.
Click 'Okay' to proceed with importing surveys.
13. Finalizing Import 3:10
The system evaluates the data types.
Confirm the number of records (e.g., 181 records).
Click 'Import Surveys' to complete the process.

The fence sections survey is now created with all data imported.
